CAFOD APPEAL

FOR THE PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN
In what has been discribed as a "slow motion tsunami"
by the UN, the people of Pakistan are facing a disaster
like the world has ever seen. The devastating floods that
now stretch for more than 600 miles have killed at least
1600 people and left up to 20 million in neede of
emergency help. People have lost homes, crops and
livestock, and are now at risk from deadly water-borne
diseases such as cholera. Because the need is so urgent,
we ask your support and a special collection will be
taken in our Parish next Sunday, 5th September.

Congratulations to our young people at Archbishop
McGrath on excellent results at "A" Level and GCSE
level; also to their families and teachers. Once again
a very successful year.
At A Level,79% of grades were at grades C and above,
which was second in the County and 9% above the
County average. At GCSE, an impressive 68% of
students gained 5 or more GCSEs at grade C or above.
The results are also amongst the best in the County.
These results are a wonerful achievement.
Congratulations to Jonathan Phillips who has achieved
PHD in Physics and is embarking on a career in
Kings Collage Hospital London. (Medical Science)

We have been praying the "Novena" in honour of the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist - our special request for the successful restoration of our Church.
"Whatever you ask for in prayer
and do so with faith, you will recieve" (Mt 21.22)

We have been asking for a special favour in this Novena
"That we are successful in restoring
our Parish Church, Our Lady and St Patrick,
making it a house of beauty
for the presence of the Blessed Sacrament"

Papal Visit:
Arrangments details have now been received for
London and Birmingham. Letters to individuals will be
sent during this week from your Pilgrim Leaders -
Birmingham Mrs Maria Kelly-Harris;
London Mrs Margaret Buckley.
We pray for Pope Benedict XVI as he prepares for his
State visit to the UK and also for his advisors as they
deliberate about the appointment of a new
Archbishop of Cardiff.
May the Holy Father be guided wisely.
Prayer: God of Truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ,
stands as the light to all who seek you with sincere heart.
As we strive, with your grace, to be faithful in word and
deed, may we reflect the kindly light of christ, and offer
a witness of hope and peaceto all. We pray for
Pope Benedict and look forward with joy to his
forthcoming visit. May he be a witness to the unity and
hope which is your will for all people. We make our prayer
though Christ Our Lord. Amen.
